*All individuals and organizations receive 7 full days of pre-publication notice (11 including weekends).

*I ask for a request for comment from the philosophy department instead of the university spokesperson because it's the philosophy department (philosophers) that are racist or sexist.

*I round up to one decimal place for all figures.

Racism Saint Mary's University

Sexism Saint Mary's University

In a request for comment I ask them:

1. Do you believe that 3/11 women in tenure-track positions represents sexism in the Saint Mary's University philosophy department?

2. Do you believe that 0/11 visible minorities in tenure-track positions represents racism in the Saint Mary's University philosophy department?

Saint Mary's Philosophy Professor Mark Mercer is kind enough to respond:

I don't think the proportion of women or visible minorities in a department by itself indicates much at all. If the proportion is low, that might be because of biases in hiring, but only solid research could determine whether indeed sexism or racism is the cause.

Well...that's one way to defend zero visible minorities in tenure-track positions.

Again, vocabulary is a problem. Instead of the harsh sounding terms like racism and/or sexism, Mercer opts for bias. Bias, prejudice, gender inequality or gender balance are softer politically correct terms for racism and sexism. You need to stop softening the terms and deal with the real problem at hand, racist and/or sexist ideologies.

The ideology that solid research is necessary to determine sexism or racism is just intellectuals trying to garbage you. They're trying to convince you that their intellectual work is necessary to solve all of these complex problems. In reality they're just trying to continue their life of luxury at the cost of student tuition and taxpayer dollars.
